How to Raise Financially Responsible Children

In today's world, kids are constantly being bombarded with marketing messages that can negatively impact their future financial success. So how can a parent combat these influences and raise children to be wise financial managers throughout their lives? For some great tips, check out our latest blog article.
News & Benefits
Accounts Teach Kids About Money

It's national youth month! To celebrate, we are focusing our educational efforts on the importance of teaching kids how to save. So if you have children or grandchildren, now is a great time to tap into these additional resources to teach them about money and the importance of saving. Just check out our Facebook page for some great tips.

One great way to help children learn is to have them open a savings account. To learn more about the special accounts we have for children, teens and young adults, check out our website or stop a branch.
Prepaid Debit Cards:
A Smart Idea for Teens

Around junior-high age, many kids need to spend money when their parents aren't around. In these cases, credit and debit cards are the first options parents think of. However, because these options can be risky, we recommend getting your teen a prepaid debit card instead.

This option gives teens a set amount to spend and keeps you from experiencing overdraft charges if they spend too much because it will not allow expenditures over the card balance. It's also a great way to teach kids about budgeting because when the money is gone, it's gone.

Select FCU prepaid debit cards cost $4.95 for the first money transfer and then only $1.95 per month plus .50 each time you load the card after that. For more details or to sign up for a prepaid debit card, give us a call at (210) 223-6561.

Donate $5 & Get a Fiesta Medal

Fiesta Medals featuring our new logo on the back are available for a donation of $5 for Credit Unions for Kids projects. To get one, visit our main branch or the drive thru. Be sure to stop by soon as they are running out.

Mark Your Calendar for Early Closing

In honor of Battle of Flowers Parade on April 28, we are closing at noon. However, your online banking is always available.

  • Lower Your Monthly Payments
  • Pay Off Medical Debts

SELECT FCU NEWS AND BENEFITS
Pre-Paid Debit Card Offers Increased Security
If you like to shop online or just take a more secure route when it comes to debit cards, our new pre-paid debit card option may be just what you need.

In addition to limiting access to your bank account which provides an added layer of security, a pre-paid debit card can also help you avoid overdraft fees. Another great benefit is that it can be used as a budgeting tool. Load up the card with your pre-set budget amount for a particular item like eating out and then when the money runs out, you will know you can't spend anymore. These new debit cards also are linked to an app which will allow you to check your balance on the go and transfer money from your savings or checking account to your debit card.
Select FCU prepaid debit cards cost $4.95 for the first money transfer and then only $1.95 per month plus .50 for each transfer after that.

For more details or to sign up for a pre-paid debit card, give us a call at (210) 223-6561.
